Euan (11) signs for Southampton

FORMER Jersey Primary Schools footballer Euan Vandervliet has become the latest Island youngster to join Southampton Football Club.

The 11-year-old De La Salle College student and Rozel Rovers goalkeeper signed a contract last Sunday to play for and train with the Saints’ under-12 and under-13 teams until the end of this season.

Jersey Football Development officer Brian Oliver said: ‘Euan recently played in matches against Portsmouth and Chelsea and Southampton’s coaches were pleased with what they saw from him.

‘Academy manager Matthew Crocker told me they were really impressed with Euan and signing him until the end of this season they are giving him further opportunities to impress,’ he said. ‘The Jersey Football Association and Southampton Football Club have a strong link (JFA sponsor and Island resident Michael Wilde is the Championship club’s chairman) and we are delighted to be working together to provide a possible pathway into professional football for our young players.’
