St John and Wanderers reach Cory Cup final

The under-14 Division II teams won the semi-finals after scoring five goals apiece at the FB Fields on Sunday afternoon; St John 5-1 against St Ouen and Wanderers 5-3 against St Paul’s B, the latter who suffered their first defeat in eight games this season.

Mark Warner and Fraser Barlow scored two goals apiece and Chris Mallett a single against St Paul’s whose Stephen Byrne capitalised with a hat-trick. Wanderers coach Nigel Harrington said: ‘We’re delighted to be in the final; the team effort was brilliant and the players delivered what they were asked to deliver before the game started.

‘It’s the first time this season we’ve had a full squad to select from and the boys more than made up for the two defeats they’ve previously had against St Paul’s. There were some fine individual performances too, Joe Kerschbaumer delivered some great balls into our strikers and they capitalised with their pace.’
