Irish double for Jersey

JERSEY will host a three-nation under-18 football tournament at Springfield next month.

It’s great news for Jersey’s players who will play opposite the rising stars of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Both visiting countries, who are again preparing for this winter’s annual Centenary Shield tournament, will play against Jersey at Springfield while also opposing each other at the same venue.

Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 2, 3 and 4 February with Jersey hosting the Republic on the Monday and Northern Ireland on the Wednesday. Tuesday’s game in St Helier will be between the Republic and Northern Ireland.

Jersey Football Association chief executive officer Paul Creeden said: ‘This is a real coup for Jersey; we are really delighted to have two Centenary Shield teams here to play against our team giving our players the rare opportunity of playing a couple of international matches.
