St Clement ease through

TRINITY Shield holders St Clement moved comfortably into the last four of this season’s competition with a 6-1 quarter-final victory over St John on Saturday.

On their home park, St Clement won with a brace of goals each from Steven McGinness and Matt Rawlings and singles from Kieran Lester and David Watson. The winners will now play either St Brelade or St Saviour in the semi-final at Les Quennevais on Tuesday 30 December, kick-off 7.30 pm.

St Lawrence and Grouville won through to oppose each other in the other semi-final at St Lawrence on Saturday 27 December. Phil Helleur scored the only goal shortly before half time to earn St Lawrence a 1-0 victory at St Peter. Grouville, last season’s beaten finalists, overcame the handicap of having Peter Le Maistre sent off in their 2-0 victory, after extra-time, against St Ouen at Le Boulivot. Mark Nightingale opened the scoring with a shot from 25 yards and Jonny Gough made it 2-0 late on after rounding the goalkeeper and rolling the ball into an unguarded goal.

Next Saturday’s quarter-final between St Brelade and St Saviour (at St Brelade) and the semi-final between St Lawrence and Grouville (at St Lawrence) both start at 1.30 pm.
