Boyle brace maintains Scottish at top of table

YOUNG Jack Boyle scored a brace on Saturday helping Jersey Scottish maintain top spot in the Coca-Cola Combination Premiership.

The Muratti midfielder moved on to seven goals for the season as the Scots defeated St Peter 2-1 at Les Quennevais where the Saints finished with ten men after goal scorer Jack Cannon was shown a red card following a comment made to referee Andy Legg. Scottish, who have played a game more than second and third-placed St Paul’s and Trinity respectively, meet St Paul’s at St Saviour this coming Saturday.

St Paul’s and Trinity, who like Scottish are unbeaten in the league, both won on Saturday – St Paul’s by the odd-goal in three against Grouville at Le Boulivot while Trinity were 3-1 victors at home to St Ouen. Rozel Rovers beat Jersey Wanderers 2-0 at Le Couvent to join the team they beat on three points from a game played more. Beeches Old Boys and Jersey Nomads both scored five goals to move into the last eight of the PW Touzel Memorial Trophy.

Lee Richomme bagged a hat-trick in St Martin/SCF’s 5-3 defeat by Jersey Nomads at the FB Fields where the victors registered their goals via doubles through Ben Doherty and Paul Lees and a single from Mark Harris. First Tower moved up two positions to fourth in the Championship after winning by the odd-goal in three at La Hague Manor against St Brelade. Jersey Wanderers Reserves increased their lead to four points in Division I after defeating second-placed Rozel Rovers 2-1 at Hockey Club. Both the other games in the division finished in 2-2 draws between St Paul’s and Grouville at St Saviour and St Peter and Jersey Scottish at St Peter where Mark Stewart bagged both for the hosts.
