Football:Pitman signs two-year deal for Bournemouth

Days short of his 18th birthday, the prolific goalscoring talent signed his contract before Saturday’s 2-1 home Coca-Cola League One defeat by Chesterfield, where he played the last 12 minutes as a substitute.

Pitman said: ‘I’ve known for a while it was going to happen and everything was finalised a couple of weeks ago.

‘I signed before Saturday’s game and obviously I’m very pleased.

I’m delighted it’s been sorted before the end of the season as I can concentrate fully on the playing side again.

‘I’ve been in the first-team squad regularly since before Christmas and have had a few run outs as a substitute.

‘My target is simple, I want to keep working hard, score a couple of goals at this level and then look to get my first league start.’ Brett’s father Brent, a former Muratti striker, said: ‘Playing professionally has always been Brett’s goal, the family are pleased for him and the pressure is now off a little because he has another two years.

‘There is an opportunity for a third year so hopefully he will do well and go on to secure that too.’ The Pitman family were in attendance at Saturday’s signing, they returned to Jersey last night and are off again tomorrow to celebrate Brett’s 18th birthday.

Young Pitman, a product of the Jersey Football Association’s Centre of Excellence, has developed further through Bournemouth’s youth set up.

He made his first-team début against Torquay in the Carling Cup on 24 August last year.

The game went to a penalty shoot-out where Pitman kept his nerve to score his first senior goal in the Cherries’ win.

He also scored from the spot on his full debut for the team, his goal putting Bournemouth on the way to a 4-1 win against Aldershot in the LDV Vans Trophy.
