Football:Scottish pull three points clear

Muratti players Ross Crick (two), Chris Andrews and Craig Leitch scored the goals in a 4-0 victory against First Tower at Springfield – Scottish scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes before crossing over 3-0 ahead.

Their final goal, late on, was comical, Crick having a shot well-parried by Tower goalkeeper Fabio Fernandes only for substitute Blake Applegate’s clearance to strike Crick with the ball rebounding into the goal! ‘That summed up our season,’ said Tower manager Dave Philpott, adding: ‘I felt sorry for Fabio, he made a good save, he had an excellent night – but it was comical to watch.

‘Three-down at half time we could have folded and taken a hiding, but we rolled up sleeves up and played well after the break and that was pleasing.

‘Early on we missed a header for their first goal and their second we gave away possession.

They have so much quality with Island strikers in their side and give them a sniff of a chance and they take it and hurt you.’ Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘We had a great start with two early goals.

It’s good to return following the break and get the three points.

‘Tower always give us a difficult game.

They never gave up and as we tired a little after the break there were few opportunities and not much between the teams.’ Andrews fired Scottish ahead from James Scott’s cross before Leitch hit a rising shot into a top corner after Andrews’ darting run.

Leitch turned provider for Crick to tap home his opener on the stroke of half time before Crick completed the scoring with probably the most unusual goal he will ever score.
