The parish side bounced back from their midweek defeat by champions Jersey Scottish to win 3-0 against Tower in Division I at Le Boulivot, with goals by Luc Le Mière, Toni Cardoso and substitute Peter Hall.

The victory lifted Grouville up one place to third, a point behind Trinity and three in arrears of Scottish.

Jersey Wanderers, who hit the woodwork three times, collected their first point of the season following a goal-less draw against St Brelade at the Hockey Club.

Two points now separate the top five in Division II.

Leaders St Ouen were beaten for the first time, 3-2 by Jersey Nomads and with Beeches Old Boys, who scored a late goal, defeating a youthful St John 3-2 away St Ouen and Beeches are now joint top with 13 points.

Sporting Academics, who had junior Jamie Kyle (two cautions) and Gavin Margetts (alleged foul language) sent off, defeated St Clement 7-6 at Les Quennevais, to remain joint-third with Nomads and just a point behind the leading duo.

Phil Helleur (three), junior Sean Doran (two), Jamie Roberts and Michael Perreira were on target for the winners and Matt Scriven (three), Matt Rawlings (two) and Adi Hick for the losers.

Magpies are a further point away after they won 3-1 at St Martin/SCF.

Mark Harris put the hosts ahead before former St Paul’s striker Steve Cumming turned the match on his début, the substitute setting up two goals before scoring one himself.

Ben Doherty (two) and Carl Winn scored for Nomads and Rob Moore and Shane Carré for St Ouen.

Both clubs had a player sent off, Nomads’ Fabio Pinho and St Ouen’s Scott Quarrell – both for alleged violent conduct.

St John had Tony Riley (two cautions) red carded in their home defeat by Beeches.

Andy McKnight, Dave Kennedy and Jez Field netted for the Old Boys and junior Stuart Daynes and Tommy Graham for the Saints.

St Lawrence won their first game of the season, 4-3 against Portuguese Club at Les Quennevais.

For the winners, Chris Swanton notched a brace and Steve Le Quesne and Phil Gaudin singles.

Elson Delgado scored twice for Portuguese and José-Manuel Vieira once.

St Clement and Portuguese Club won Lady Bingham Trophy preliminary round matches for Division II Reserve teams.

Paul Tumelty and Kevin Cassin scored in St Clement’s 2-1 home win against St Lawrence while Filipe Ferreira (two) and Carlos Carolo were on target in Portuguese’s 3-1 win away to St Brelade.

Peter Hewlett and Dave Wright scored St Ouen’s goals in a 2-2 home draw against leaders Grouville in the C Division.

Liam Kelly and Jason Byrne were on the mark for the visitors.

Third-placed St Peter lost ground after they went down by the odd-goal in three against Rozel Rovers at Les Quennevais.

Sean Anderton and Tony Amorin scored for Rozel and Ian Tardivel for St Peter.

Jersey Wanderers moved into joint third after they returned 5-3 winners from St Lawrence following goals by John Thwaites, Paul Sims, Alan Yates, Danny Moisan and Scott Young.

John Seal, Andrew Morgan and Ben Le Fondré were on target for St Lawrence.

Michael Rive, Ged Horgan, Danny Chapman and Justin Spencer-Burrows hit the target to give Sporting Academics a 4-0 success over St Brelade at Les Quennevais.
