Football:Cup holders win through to Wheway semi

Following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, the home side went on to win a repeat of last year’s final to win with two goals from Danny Craven and one by Dave Le Roux.

Rozel’s hopes of moving into the last four were dashed at home, Roy Jeanne’s side never got out of the starting blocks as they slid to a 5-1 defeat at Le Couvent against Guernsey’s St Martin.

The visitors’ Dominic Heaume, playing in the unaccustomed position of striker, helped himself to four goals.

Andy McCabe notched Rozel’s consolation.

Trinity joint-manager Adam Reid said: ‘It was a very good game and we had to work hard for the victory.

It was evenly-matched, both sides had chances to win it inside 90 minutes.

‘North are young, quick and well organised.

We had to be at our best and goalkeeper Jimmy Styles’ handling was excellent while Dave Lloyd was back to his best at centre half.

‘Newcomer Ashley Dodds, formerly with Manchester United, had a fine game in midfield while Davie Le Roux ended up playing in four different positions and he did a fine job.’ Jon Veron fired North ahead in the 20th minute before Trinity equalised through Le Roux, after good play by Paul Banahan, five minutes before the break.

Craven side-footed Trinity ahead in the first period of extra time, after Dodds’ shot was blocked, before Craven sealed victory in the final minute.

Trinity join Jersey Scottish and Guernsey’s St Martin’s in the semis together with one of First Tower, Grouville or St Brelade.
