Football:Jersey fit and raring to go!

A year ago manager Dave Matthews questioned his players’ fitness against the same opponents – but this week he was praising their efforts.

Matthews said: ‘Our fitness levels are definitely up from last year and it’s down to the players to show Cornwall that tomorrow.

We fell away last year conceding four goals in the final 20 minutes to lose the game 4-1.

‘We set our standards by winning the international under-21 tournament at Springfield in August, we did exceptionally well considering we played five games in ten days.

‘We have good ability in our squad and I’m hoping we can win our three group games this season.

Fitness is something you can just turn on, you have to work hard for it and the players have done that.

‘We’ve got a couple with minor knocks but I’m confident those with them will recover in time for the game.

We have four very good strikers this year – it’s a nice problem to have but it’s a headache deciding who will start.

‘It’s our first game since the tournament success and hopefully we can maintain our form and get off to a winning start.’ Jersey: Jimmy Styles, Danny Evans, Stuart André, Craig Northedge, Allan Brown, Tom Poole, Chris Andrews, Jon Fitzmaurice, Ross Crick, Danny Craven, Dave Le Roux, Craig Leitch, Bradley Russell, Alex Jefferies, Danny Hughes, Russell Le Feuvre and Marcus Bailey.
