Brown, a former Grouville and Island U16 manager, had been helping out at St Martin/SCF until before Christmas but was taking a break from the game when St Brelade advertised the post.
Brown (49) saw the position as ‘too good an opportunity to miss.’ He said: ‘I couldn’t turn this chance down.
This is a good club with excellent facillities and, importantly, it seems to have a community spirit.
If you want help and ask for it, you will get it.
‘I’ve spoken to Peter Taylor who ran the side this season.
He has done a marvellous job before stepping down, as he had indicated he would.
I hope he’s still going to be involved with the club.’ Brown, who hopes to bring in someone to assist, admits to not having seen the current team – they went up alongside champions Rozel Rovers – so he won’t make any judgements on their suitability for the higher division.
Not knowing the players is not a problem, he says.
‘Peter thinks they have the strengths to survive.
And the club certainly have a good set-up here, with the youth teams and all.
The players also seem keen from what I’ve been told, so that makes a big difference – fitness counts for a lot in the higher division.
‘I hope the players react positively.
Our aim is to retain our status in Division I next season.’ Club president Dave Maine said: ‘We’re very pleased to have someone of Colin’s calibre on board.
He’s got a great track record, he’s a great coach and we’re looking forward to him taking us in the first division next season.’
