Football:Can Grouville crown season with silverware?

Ian Horswell’s emerging side are chasing a possible best ever finish of third in Division I of the Coca-Cola Combination – just one season after winning the Division II title and Touzel Cup final.

Horswell, in his fifth season at Grouville, said: ‘All of my players have worked long and hard this season and they deserve to be in tonight’s final.

We’ve had a good season in terms of the league, we’ve just been promoted and have a realistic chance of finishing third.

‘This is our chance of silverware and what better cup to win in Jersey than the Le Riches Cup.

We knocked Jersey Scottish out in the second round and took the rest of the rounds just as seriously.

‘We respect St Paul’s and we have taken our preparation seriously.

We know it will be a close game, as our 0-0 league draw just a week ago proved.

‘I’m confident my players are in the right condition – physically and mentally – to win tonight.

Apart from Will Partington, who was injured in the semi-final, we’re at full strength and that gives me a selection headache but it’s a nice one to have.’ St Paul’s manager Paul Durrans said: ‘I believe we can beat any team at Springfield, we have had some excellent wins there this season including two against league runners-up Trinity.

‘It’s a cup final tonight; it’s a one-off game and both teams will be up for it.

Grouville will be fit and organised, they always are, and I just hope that it’s a better game than the recent one against them at Le Boulivot when chances were few and far between.’ St Paul’s: Danny Evans, Lee Bradshaw, Shaun Irvine, James Fortune, Danny Hughes, Robbie Whittaker, Jamie Allan, Karl Hayes, Glen Durrans, Stephen Jones, Stuart André, Dave Watson, Lucas Parker, Craig Leitch, Jean-Paul Martin and Steve Cumming.

Grouville: Alex Buesnel, Carlos Rebelo, Matt Godel, Jason Bingham, Craig Northedge, Josh Collins, Shaun Heslop, Chris Coates, Luc Le Mière, Richard Stevens, Ben Holt, Murray Dron, Russell Le Feuvre, Nick Walkmsley, Peter Hall, Nelio Maroté, Toni Cardoso and Martyn White.

Kick-off is at 7.30 pm.
