At Springfield, Graeme Mourant’s side defeated cup-holders St Paul’s 4-1 following two goals by Chris Mourant – one from 25 yards – and singles by Bradley Rimeur and Daniel McAviney.

The Saints hit their consolation through Ruben Pestana.

Mourant senior said: ‘St Paul’s had a lot of possession but we created the majority of the chances.

They did have a good chance in the first minute while in the second-half goalkeeper John Monserez made a couple of good saves to keep us 3-1 ahead.

‘It was a good team performance, I don’t like naming individual players, while St Paul’s were short without Michael Weir and that probably swung the game our way.’ St Paul’s manager Micky Porter said: ‘We didn’t play as well as I expected and that was disappointing.

We were also a little nervous and going two-nil down early seemed to affect us.

‘We managed to get a goal back on the stroke of half-time only for Wanderers to restore their two-goal cushion straight after the break.

‘I felt we should have had a penalty and that could have got us back a goal and then their goalkeeper made two fantastic saves.

‘It was all over when they added a late fourth but full credit to Wanderers; they worked hard to close us down and they are a powerful side and that was a telling factor in the end as we tired on the big pitch.’ Injury forced Wanderers’ Ross Jeffs and Kingsley Hannah to miss the final, Jeffs picking up at knee injury at the Centre of Excellence on Monday night while Hannah tweaked a hamstring in the warm-up last night.
