GALLERY: Liberation Memories

THERE were scenes of celebration in Jersey on 8 May, when the Second World War ended in Europe, and even more so on 9 May, when the Island was liberated after five years of occupation.

Many of the photographs in this gallery were only recently discovered by Damien Horn, who developed them 70 years after they were taken.

Mr Horn’s lifetime collection of Occupation memorabilia is displayed at the Channel Islands Military Museum, close to Lewis Tower.

The newly developed photos are currently on public display there for the first time.

‘You can almost feel the release of emotion, as if the people have had a weight lifted off their shoulders,’ said Mr Horn.
