Nursery teacher Fran Rayner oversaw the parade, which has now become an annual tradition at the school.

‘We usually hold the parade on the penultimate day of term, which this year was also our open day,’ said Mrs Rayner.

‘All of the nursery- and reception-age children paraded around in their home-made bonnets.

‘We even paid a visit to the assembly hall so the older children could see them.’

Mrs Rayner added: ‘As always, the children were encouraged to design and make the bonnets themselves and were this year given the theme of ‘spring’.

‘So we had bonnets featuring lambs, bunnies and chicks.

‘In previous years, prizes would be awarded to whoever wore the best bonnet. ‘However, it proved rather too controversial, so this year we made sure everyone got an egg for their efforts.’
