Mercedes-Benz is set to bring you closer to experiencing the raw speed, the epic sound and extreme forces acting upon a modern Formula One® driver than ever before with the launch of an innovative new series of short films.
Not only does it mark the first time on-board footage has been captured of a turbocharged, V6, 2014 Formula One® car – the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W05 of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton – but it debuts innovative 360 degree filming technology to allow fans to watch the action from any angle.
For the 2014 season Formula One® cars are subject to the most challenging and extensive rule change in a generation – with new, extremely powerful yet efficient turbocharged 1.6-litre, V6 Power Units taking over from the V8 engines of last season. The footage was recorded at first test of the new 2014 challenger – set to be seen competing for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16.
Nico Rosberg and the F1 W05 weren’t the only combination in action – Lewis Hamilton joined in as he took to the track at the wheel of an E 63 AMG S Estate before being chased down by an E 63 AMG S Saloon. The results – also filmed using the 360 degree technology – are predictably smoky.
Not to be outdone, the third film contained within the app follows Nico Rosberg on track in the E 63 AMG S Estate as he demonstrates his drifting prowess (and tests the durability of the rear tyres) – all available to be viewed in high definition and from nearly any angle the viewer chooses.
