Nightlife round-up: New club night launching tonight

The DJ stalwart, who has performed at numerous Island clubs over the years, is launching the Sound of Beach Garden event tonight at Rojo.

Ross, who will be supported by DJ Stefunk on the night, is promising a night of music that will take Islanders from genre to genre throughout the night.

The doors open at 10 pm and the event finishes at 2 am.

Entry is free.

So, what is Sound of Beach Garden all about?

It’s the sound of what I would like people to associate with the night to help them know what they should come to expect and experience.

It is hopefully the beginning of a series of events to bring people together for a euphoric night of music.

It will be showcasing a special-guest DJ at every event.

What does the name mean?

It’s a play-on-words event title, so to speak.

Ross Barron takes to the turntables at Rojo on Saturday night

The name of the event has a sentimental reasons, as the first family home I first grew up in was in a lane named Beach Gardens.

Therefore, you could say that the sound of the night is more personal to me and has more meaning to it.

I suppose you could also say that music is often played in gardens, like at festivals, house parties and beaches.

I thought the name was unique and that it worked.

It is debuting this weekend – what can Islanders expect from the event?

Islanders can expect to enjoy an epic and classy event with like-minded individuals in a great nightclub, while listening to a set that progresses from genre to genre as the night goes on.

How will it be different from what’s already on offer in the Island?

Despite all the other great events that happen in the Island, this will be slightly different as it will provide a unique blend of music that I believe is not heard too often in Jersey.

In future, I may also look to attract DJs from overseas who may have not played in Jersey before. We’ll see how the launch night goes.

How do you see it changing or expanding in the future?

If all goes to plan, I see the event changing by growing and becoming more popular and well known. I see it expanding by introducing some unique ideas and possibly expanding into the UK.

DJ Stefunk is supporting you on the night. What will he bring to the party?

Well-respected DJ Stefunk will be kick-starting the party with a blend of typically funky tunes to warm up the crowd and keep them guessing.

Locally, people should look no further for any funk needs they may have while on a dance floor.

Why Rojo?

I see Rojo as being the perfect venue for the event, as it will give me and DJ Stefunk the freedom to express ourselves and our music.

I believe the boutique nightclub offers something different in Jersey, together with a top sound and lighting system.

You made your debut in Rojo earlier this year. What was that like?

It was memorable, to say the least. It was definitely one of the most enjoyable nights I have had since I started DJing.

The nightclub floor was packed on the night with a great crowd on the dance floor who were jumping.

According to some, it was one of the busiest Friday nights Rojo has had.

I’m hoping to at least match or better that this weekend.

Apart from Sound of Beach Garden, what’s your favourite night out in Jersey?

Saturday nights in Rojo’s aren’t bad.

To be honest, I don’t actually have a favourite night out in Jersey, as there are quite a few good ones.

I listen to different friends DJing over here on regular basis and they certainly know how to play.

Adam’s after a place among the stars

WIGAN-born, but now Jersey-based, singer-songwriter Adam Bradbury is all set to release his five-track album next week.

The artiste, who models himself on acts such as The Cure, Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World, began work on the his album Aim For The Stars back in 2010.

The title for the EP comes from his favourite quote ‘Aim for the moon – that way, if you miss, you’ll be among the stars’.

The album is currently available to order and is due to be released on Monday.

The JEP’s Nightlife spoke to Adam as part of the Meet the Musician series.

(To be part of Meet the Musician, contact nightlife@jerseyeveningpost.com).

Name: Adam Bradbury

Age: Old enough

Genre: Acoustic, pop, rock

Fun fact: I supported Bryan Adams on his UK tour when I was younger, playing at the KC Stadium in Hull and the Britannia Stadium in Stoke to more than 60,000 people.

When did you first get involved in music?

When I was 15 I got my first guitar and began lessons. Since then I have been writing songs and playing gigs. Both my brothers are musical, we all play the piano, guitar, bass, drums.

Where can Islanders see you play?

I hope to be playing all around the Island very soon.

Who is your music idol?

I have a few. I admire songwriters like Chris Carrabba, Dashboard Confessional and also Jim Adkins of the band Jimmy Eat World – and of course the great Michael Jackson.

What is your favourite song of all time?

That’s such a hard question. Probably Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson, or maybe Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears. Or even Friday I’m In Love by The Cure.

I guess it depends what mood I’m in. Sometimes there’s nothing better than Gin And Juice by Snoop Doog. My taste is quite varied.

What song do you hate the most?

I guess anything by Abba. My dad used to blast out Abba in the car on our way to school when I was young and he would sing along at the top of his voice and insist on driving right up to the school doors, in the middle of everyone, windows down, screaming, Dancing Queen! It scarred me for life.

How would you rate Jersey’s nightlife?

It’s not too bad, very relaxed and laid-back compared to England. I suppose that’s both a good thing and a bad thing.

What would you change about it?

I would allow clubs to open all night. Back home in Wigan and Manchester we would only leave the house at 1 am and still be out when the sun came up the next day.

Where is the best place for a night out in Jersey?

I love Chambers, so it has to be there for the live bands. I just wish they had original bands play every now and then.

Where is the best place to perform in Jersey?

I would love to play at Chambers.

Best venue in Jersey that no longer exists?

I remember when I first moved here, The Live Lounge in St Helier was the place for live music. I barely got a chance to experience it before it shut down.

If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be?

I’m a massive fan of Japanese culture and would love to visit the country some time, so I think it would be even better if I got to tour Japan and to play a few venues over there.

Quickfire questions

60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s? 80s. Bands such as The Cure are a major influence in my own music. The Smiths, Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper rocked in the 80s too.
