Long locks get the chop for charity

Sophie Pallot (15), who lives in St Aubin, decided to have a new hairstyle and donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs and hairpieces for children who lose hair through cancer treatment. She told her mum Viv that her long hair was becoming annoying, as it took a long time to dry and became tangled in the wind, but that she did not want it wasted.

‘During her three weeks’ work experience with Project Trident at Matisse Salon in St Aubin, Sophie heard the salon had done something similar for charity last December,’ explained Viv. Despite having her hair trimmed last year, when she could sit on it, she was able to donate 21 in of hair to the charity following the cut.

‘She’s thrilled with the new look that Amanda at Matisse gave her,’ said Viv.

‘She thinks the pixie cut better suits her image as a performer in a rock band with Chordz Jersey Music School, where she is known by her stage name, Zora.’

Sophie also had support from her school. Beaulieu assistant headteacher Heidi Whitehead said: ‘At Beaulieu we constantly challenge our students to think of others less fortunate, and to commit themselves to social action through deeds not just words. We admire Sophie for taking up this challenge.’
