A grand entrance for ward residents

The idea of providing more personal ‘front doors’ arose from discussions among staff on ways to add to the therapeutic environment already created at the unit, which provides care for older adults who have illnesses including dementia..

Student nurse Gemma Colley, who also works as a bank health care assistant on Maple Ward, discussed the idea with a friend, artist Stefanie Marsh, and after doing some research they put forward a portfolio of designs.

These were approved after discussions with staff and residents, and the two then spent three weeks painting 13 front doors,

each with a different design and in a bright colour.
