Ladies are in stitches over blanket operation

The group of eight meet once a fortnight at each others’ homes to knit squares which are then made into blankets for the charity to deliver to people in need in Romania.

They went on to help with the Island’s Occupation Tapestry to mark the 50th anniversary of Liberation, and made a tapestry for the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society when their new home was built in Trinity.

A few years ago the group read of the work Mustard Seed in Romania, and responded by knitting squares and turning them into blankets, and have been doing so ever since.

They presented a number of blankets to the charity, who receive them from a number of other groups, including one at The Hollies Day Care Centre.

  • Mustard Seed Jersey is a small charity that was set-up in 1998
  • It is run from the home of the founder – Rose Hélie, and financed by donations from Jersey people
  • The aim of the charity is to ease suffering in eastern Europe, by providing opportunities to enable people to become self-sufficient, through the taking of humanitarian aid, funding various projects and prayerfully supporting a number of projects
  • Mustard Seed chooses to work with small trusts and foundations, as they are seen to be in the greatest need, often having no other help from the West
