At the awards evening to mark the end of the challenge, the Calibre team were declared winners of the best overall company award after the judges said they had done ‘a great job all round’.

As a result, they will now go on to represent the Island at the Young Enterprise regional finals at Guildford Cathedral in Surrey on 16 June.

Over the eight months the Calibre team sold pick’n’mix sweets, hyacinth flowers planted in spray-painted recycled food cans, and home-made jam and black butter. They also organised a charity auction and raffle at the Radisson Blu Hotel, from which all profits went to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Young Enterprise has been running in the Island since 1987, and this year saw a greater focus on social responsibility, with a number of the companies choosing to donate funds or take on projects for local charities. Students raised more than £4,600 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and funds were also donated to CLIC Sargent, Durrell Wildlife and the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity.
