London’s Lord Mayor in Brexit fact-finding mission to Jersey

Andrew Parmley is due to meet Chief Minister Ian Gorst and External Relations Minister Philip Bailhache next week, as well as representatives from Jersey Finance and the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

The Lord Mayor of London is the head of the City of London Corporation, which is based in the Square Mile financial district, and is responsible for promoting the UK’s financial and professional services industry, as well as the City as a place to do business.

Mr Parmley: ‘My job is to represent financial services for the whole of the UK and that means that I represent Jersey, so it’s very important for me to see what is involved.

‘The City of London and Jersey have a very long working relationship together and we are going to be looking at the question of Brexit together.’

He added that he believed that the working relationship between the City of London and Jersey was ‘very, very important’ and that he would seek to represent the Island’s interests during Brexit negotiations.
