Fashion guru flies flag for women in business

The Scottish Fashion Awards founder told a packed audience at the Women’s Development Forum that despite the increased freedoms enjoyed by 21st-century women, on average they were paid 18 per cent less than men and were under-represented in the boardroom.

Mrs Hartmann, who moved her business to Jersey two years ago and came here with her family, is this month launching the website for the Jersey Style Awards, a project, which she believes will put the Island on the big-brand fashion map.

Speaking on the eve of International Women’s Day, she said that even though fashion was ‘a billion-dollar business’ employing 880,000 people, the workforce was predominantly female but most of the top positions were held by men.
