JCG students see how technology can – and will – shape their future

The school introduced its first Computational Thinking Week recently, with presentations from local specialist companies on the importance of technology for future careers and new developments in artificial intelligence and e-marketing. The week culminated in a Lego robotics and underwater drone project being showcased at the Tech Fayre at Fort Regent.

Richard Haine, JCG’s head of computing, said that the aim of the week was to dispel the perception that computer science was a subject that was either too difficult or ‘just for geeks’.

The week was sponsored by cloud services provider Calligo and the girls took part in workshops and presentations from C5 Alliance, Infrasofttech, the British Computer Society and the Robogals team from Southampton University – a student-led group that aims to engage schoolgirls in engineering from a young age, with the goal of increasing women’s participation in engineering and technology.
