Digital economy ‘needs thousands of workers’

Nick Stammers, chairman and founder of Mobica, together with Glenn Baldwin, chief executive of Strada Energy – who have relocated to the Island through the States high-value residency scheme – were on the ‘private sector’ panel at Thursday’s Institute of Directors Jersey debate on the theme of ‘future-proofing Jersey’.

Mr Stammers, who employs a thousand staff in the north-west of England, Poland, the USA and Mexico, said the number of people already working in the Island’s digital economy had been exaggerated, with only around 500 residents employed in the sector.

He said the Island was too complacent and ‘comfortable’.
