THE Corporate Adviser Rankings Guide (Q1) has once again listed Carey Olsen as the top-ranking offshore law firm for London Stock Exchange listed clients.

The law firm has moved up to third from fourth place in the previous quarter. It remains the only offshore law firm to feature in the top ten.

The guide ranks the top 20 institutional advisers by their total number of London listed clients, as well as by client numbers in the eight main FTSE industry sectors.

In the offshore law firm table, Carey Olsen is reported to advise more than twice as many clients (91) than its closest offshore competitor law firm.

In the financial sector table, which ranks firms across the UK, Carey Olsen leads the field for the second consecutive quarter with 61 listed clients. The law firm also makes its debut onto the oil and gas table with four listed clients.

Its position as adviser to FTSE 350 clients also remains strong with two FTSE 100 clients and a further ten clients in the FTSE 250 table, where Carey Olsen moved up three places to joint tenth.

The firm continues to hold second place in the Alternative Investment Market table – the most successful growth market in the world – with 43 listed clients.

Carey Olsen partner and head of corporate practice in Guernsey, Graham Hall, said: ‘We have been placed in first position among the offshore firms for some time in this report as LSE clients and their advisers continue to select Carey Olsen as their offshore adviser of choice.

‘The sector tables show the balance of work across several markets. Our lead position in the financials table is a reflection of our core client base and it is encouraging to see our growth into other sectors, such as oil and gas, in this past quarter.’

Penny Downes and Theo Paphitis

AN Island businesswoman has won an award from the former BBC Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis.

Penny Downes, the owner of St Clement beauty salon Pennyfeathers, was a proud recipient of the Twitter-based business award.

The national small business award, known as #SBS, Small Business Sunday Award, was presented to her by Mr Paphitis after she was invited to tweet what was ‘great’ about her business.

Ms Downes wrote: ‘Pennyfeathers; a small Jersey salon putting the treat back in treatment.’

She was presented with the award at a gala event held by Mr Paphitis at the ICC Birmingham.

The function was attended by 700 people from all over Britain and was covered by The Sun newspaper.

Ms Downes was given the chance to meet Mr Paphitis and his panel of speakers at the event and tell him more about her salon.

Help for group supplying medical billing software

Danny Bannister, the CEO of Total Solutions Group

TOTAL Solutions Group has signed a contract with Egton to host its Medibooks software via the NHS network N3.

The N3 network has 1.3 million NHS end users and more than 40,000 connections in England and Scotland.

It has a wide variety of end user NHS organisations, from GP practices to large hospitals.

The partnership between Jersey-based Total Solutions and Egton – part of EMIS Group – means that customers using Medibooks will now have faster and more secure access to their software.

Danny Bannister, CEO of Total Solutions Group, said he was delighted to have agreed terms with Egon to host and manage the produce.

‘The deal means that the group now has the ability to deploy on demand its medical billing software to any UK NHS location with the huge N3 network.

‘Real time, this means the ability to offer the same high-level service to more users, ensuring the end-user experience is seamless. Users can now gain access to Medical Billing for the NHS by simply downloading a link. This provides unrivalled quality control, reassurance and N3 data security,’ said Mr Bannister.

‘Whereas before we installed on client infrastructure which varied widely in resource capability and accessibility, we now enjoy our own hosted infrastructure which simply requires a short link downloading, saving us and the client valuable time.

‘We can on-board a new client in minutes now, whereas it could take hours before, including gaining the relevant client IT permissions.

‘It also means that the NHS now has access to medical billing within its own trusted certified environment and we can deploy instantly from Jersey at the push of a button.’
